BARCELONA – For patients with locally advanced cervical cancer, combining intracavitary and interstitial (IC/IS) brachytherapy techniques should be the benchmark treatment. That’s according to results from the retroEMBRACE study that looked at 700 patients and showed: Advanced adaptation with combined IC/IS delivered significantly higher radiation doses to the tumour without increasing exposure to organs or adding more late morbidity. Oncology Times reporter Sarah Maxwell heard more from lead author Lars Fokdal MD, PhD from Aarhus University Hospital, Denmark who presented findings to the 2015 ESTRO Forum held in Barcelona.
